# Calculating Your Share

The points you hold, divided by the points everyone holds.

Once every fund's reward weight for the cycle is known, your share is simple division:

> **Your share** is your reward weight divided by the reward weight of every fund in the round. **Your payout** is the round's pool multiplied by that share.

![Your points against everyone's points](https://3552858075-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FGyJ2fCw8mpbx6YAYcG8z%2Fuploads%2FGhZWpRK5TufZbDgdToWP%2Ffig-17-pool-share-v2.svg?alt=media)

## A worked example

Four funds reach the end of an hour holding this:

| Fund | How the hour went | Points held | Share of the pool |
| --------- | ----------------------------- | ----------: | ----------------: |
| Fund A    | Big office, traded well       |     100,000 |             47.6% |
| Fund B    | Small office, hit the ceiling |      60,000 |             28.6% |
| Fund C    | Never opened the terminal     |      40,000 |             19.0% |
| Fund D    | Lost points trading           |      10,000 |              4.8% |
| **Total** |                               | **210,000** |          **100%** |

Fund C placed no trades at all and still takes almost a fifth of the pool, because the office is what the board pays on. Fund D had a bad hour in the terminal and still takes something, because what its office produced does not disappear when a trade goes wrong.

## The two ways to raise your share

Only two things move your reward weight, so only two things move your share:

1. **Build a bigger office** — it pays in every cycle whether you trade or not, and it raises the ceiling on what the terminal can add.
2. **Trade well** — up to that ceiling, which is your office's own output for the cycle.

{% hint style="warning" %}
The two are not equal. Office income is uncapped and arrives whether you are at the desk or not. Terminal winnings stop at double what the office made, and terminal losses come straight off the balance the pool pays on.
{% endhint %}

Your standing updates live during the cycle, so you can watch your share move as other funds build and trade.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://degen-capital-1.gitbook.io/degen-capital-docs/degen-capital/the-prize-pool/calculating-your-share.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `build a script that syncs our docs to a CMS` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
