# The Build Grid

400 cells, 25 modules, and the rules for placing things.

| Your space       | Size          |
| ---------------- | ------------- |
| Your floor       | 20 × 20 cells |
| Total cells      | 400           |
| One module       | 4 × 4 cells   |
| Modules          | 25            |
| You start owning | 1             |

![The 25 modules and what each one costs to unlock](https://3552858075-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FGyJ2fCw8mpbx6YAYcG8z%2Fuploads%2FxK8RUojRy3n1jHon3APH%2Ffig-18-build-grid.svg?alt=media)

The price printed in each module above is exactly what it costs you to unlock — the same figures as [Floor Expansion](https://degen-capital-1.gitbook.io/degen-capital-docs/degen-capital/the-office/floor-expansion), laid out by position instead of by price.

## Placing things

Everything you buy takes up a rectangle of cells, and every cell it covers has to sit inside a module you have unlocked. Footprints run from 1 × 1 for a coffee machine or a trader, up to 2 × 2 for terminals and quant cores.

## Walls

Walls sit on the edges between cells rather than in them, are always four cells long, and come in three kinds:

| Wall         | Can staff pass?              |
| ------------ | ---------------------------- |
| Solid        | No                           |
| Door / Left | Yes, through the second cell |
| Door / Right | Yes, through the third cell |

{% hint style="info" %}
Walls are the only thing in the catalogue that does nothing for your output — and the only thing you buy with points instead of $DEFUND. They are there to shape the room.
{% endhint %}

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://degen-capital-1.gitbook.io/degen-capital-docs/degen-capital/the-office/the-build-grid.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `build a script that syncs our docs to a CMS` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
