# Upgrades & Levels

Each level costs more than the last. Upgrade when you run out of floor, not before.

Everything that produces can be taken to **level 5**. For most items a level adds one more of whatever the item does — four more desks served, another 60 points a tick.

What does not stay flat is the price.

## What that looks like

A Server Cluster, starting at 90,000 $DEFUND:

| Level | Cost of this step | Spent in total | Desks served |
| :---: | --------------------------: | -------------: | :----------: |
|   1   | — *(you already paid this)* |         90,000 |       4      |
|   2   |                     139,500 |        229,500 |       8      |
|   3   |                     216,225 |        445,725 |      12      |
|   4   |                     335,149 |        780,874 |      16      |
|   5   |                     519,481 |      1,300,355 |      20      |

{% hint style="info" %}
**Upgrade when you run out of floor, not before.** A second cluster costs 90,000 and serves the same four extra desks that level 2 charges 139,500 for. What you are paying the difference for is space: an upgrade takes no extra cells.
{% endhint %}

## The terminal is the exception

A Trading Terminal seats exactly one trader at every level — there is one standing position at the desk, and a level cannot add a second. Instead, each level makes the person sitting there **25% more productive**, so a level-5 terminal doubles what its trader brings in.

That makes it the one upgrade you buy for output rather than for space. More *seats* still means more terminals, and more terminals still means more floor.

{% hint style="warning" %}
A levelled terminal is only worth what the person you sat at it makes. Upgrading a desk and leaving your weakest trader in it wastes most of the money — see [Who Sits Where](https://degen-capital-1.gitbook.io/degen-capital-docs/degen-capital/economy/how-production-works).
{% endhint %}

## What has no levels

Staff and walls do not level. A legendary's bonus and a trader's wage are fixed numbers, and walls do nothing for your output at any level.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://degen-capital-1.gitbook.io/degen-capital-docs/degen-capital/economy/upgrades-and-levels.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
