# Two Currencies

$DEFUND is what you spend. Points are what you earn, and they all sit in one balance.

![What each one can do](https://3552858075-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FGyJ2fCw8mpbx6YAYcG8z%2Fuploads%2F2P8f6vZ1bB1JMiBaHVL3%2Ffig-14-currencies.svg?alt=media)

## $DEFUND

$DEFUND is what you spend, and nothing in the game gives it back to you:

* your office, paid once
* desks, servers and quant cores
* traders and legendary hires
* comfort, because comfort raises what your traders produce
* more floor space, and every upgrade

## Points

Points are what you earn, and there is **one balance** holding all of them. Two things pay into it:

| Source       | How it arrives                                |
| ------------ | --------------------------------------------- |
| Your office | Continuously, at the rate the office produces |
| The terminal | When a cycle settles, up to the ceiling |

Office income accrues against the clock rather than against a tick counter, so it keeps adding up whether or not you have the game open, and a restart can neither double-pay it nor lose it.

{% hint style="danger" %}
**Points can never buy production.** No amount of output will ever turn itself into more output. Every increase to your office is a decision you make and pay for in $DEFUND.
{% endhint %}

What points can do is buy cosmetics, and be traded in the terminal. Your whole balance is in play there — there is no separate stake to move across, and no ceiling on how much of it you can put at risk.

## Which one pays for what

| What you are buying | You pay in | Why |
| ------------------- | ---------- | ------------------------------ |
| Income              | $DEFUND    | It changes your output         |
| Systems             | $DEFUND    | It changes your output         |
| Staff               | $DEFUND    | It changes your output         |
| Comfort             | $DEFUND    | It raises what traders produce |
| Walls               | Points     | Decoration only                |

$DEFUND comes from your own wallet — the game never hands you any and never pays any back. Points start at your office, so until you have built something there is nothing coming in.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://degen-capital-1.gitbook.io/degen-capital-docs/degen-capital/economy/two-currencies.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
